Doug Laube, M.D., M.Ed.
Doug Laube, MD assumed the position of Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Wisconsin in February of 1993. He served in that capacity until September 2006. During that time, the department experienced unprecedented growth in faculty as well in research funding. The academic and clinical growth occurred in all of the clinical divisions. To accommodate a growing number of doctoral scientists, the division of Reproductive Sciences became established in 1997.
In May of 2006, Dr. Laube became President of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) following a year as President Elect. Prior to becoming president of ACOG, he served in a number of different capacities in clinical educational organizations including: the Council on Residency Education Obstetrics and Gynecology (Chair 1996-1999), the National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME), United States Medical Licensing Exam (US MLE), and educational self-help projects in central Asia and Afghanistan.
Most recently, Dr. Laube has become involved with an educational project in residency accreditation and certification in six Central American countries. He has also been appointed to other reproductive health boards, including Physicians for Reproductive Choice (PRCH) and the Centering Health Care Institute (CHI), while continuing to volunteer with the ACOG committees. Working in collaboration with Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin and the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, Dr. Laube and Dr. Caryn Dutton are leading the effort to develop a Family Planning fellowship.
