Resident Education & Duties - Program Stats

In Madison, 95-98% of Ob-Gyn patients are admitted to one of the three teaching services. Despite the city's modest size, this makes for very respectable patient volumes for resident training. In 2007, clinical volumes on the teaching services were as follows:

Obstetrics - 2007
Total deliveries: 7,133
Cesarean sections: 1,817
Vacuum & Forceps: 438
VBAC: 157
Vaginal Breeches: 17
   
Gynecology - 2007
Major Procedures 4,267
Minor Procedures 2,835
Gyn Malignancies 316
Operative Laparoscopies 1,385

In 2007, the average graduating senior resident reported performance as primary surgeon of approximately 245 uncomplicated deliveries, 43 forceps or vacuum deliveries, 206 cesarean sections, 46 abdominal hysterectomies, 73 vaginal hysterectomies, 91 operative laparoscopies and 72 incontinence and pelvic floor sugeries.
