Grand Rounds: Andes presents “Ob-Gyn residency abortion training in a post-Dobbs era”

In the lecture, Andes first addressed the current state and availability of abortion services within the United States and how it relates to Ob-Gyn residency programs. Then, she compared the availability of abortion training programs for Ob-Gyn residents before and after the Dobbs decision, which overturned Roe v. Wade in 2022. Finally, Andes addressed the effect the Dobbs decision had on medical students, residents, and recent residency graduates.

Department of Ob-Gyn brings posters, presentations to 2023 Society of Family Planning Conference

Members of the Department of Ob-Gyn brought an impressive array of posters and panel sessions to the annual Society of Family Planning Conference on October 28-30, 2023 in Seattle. This conference aims to allow professionals to share research and learn from one another about abortion and contraception care. These are just a few of their exciting accomplishments:

Abigail Cutler, MD, MPH, assistant professor in the Division of Academic Specialists in Ob-Gyn and associate residency program director, moderated the panel “We travel the path of our patients: Establishing Illinois-based abortion training for Wisconsin Ob-Gyn residents". The panel included resident Alex Andes, MD, PGY-4, and colleagues from the University of Chicago, Medical College of Wisconsin, and Rush University.

Anderson-Carter, Andes, Harrison named chief residents for 2023-24 academic year

Congratulations to UW Ob-Gyn residents India Anderson-Carter, MD, Alex Andes, MD, and Margaret Harrison, MD! After a period of transition and training, they will all step into chief resident roles on May 1, 2023.

Anderson-Carter will be the Education Chief, taking over from graduating resident Maya Gross, MD. Andes and Harrison will be Administrative Chiefs, taking over from graduating residents Rachel Mojdehbakhsh, MD and Connor Wang, MD.

Please join the Department of Ob-Gyn and the Education Team in congratulating our incoming and outgoing Administrative and Education Chiefs who allow this program to excel as we move forward.

Brown, Williams featured at national conference on dissemination and implementation in health

Two faculty from the UW Department of Ob-Gyn were featured at the 14th Annual Conference on the Science of Dissemination and Implementation in Health (D&I), co-hosted by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and AcademyHealth. Congratulations to UW Ob-Gyn Division of Academic Specialists Director Makeba Williams, MD and Division of Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Health faculty Heidi Brown, MD, MAS!

Williams and Brown are co-authors on an abstract about a collaborative project with Christie Bartels, MD, of the UW SMPH Department of Medicine and Edmond Ramly, PhD, of the UW SMPH Institute for Clinical and Translational Research: “Examining primary care follow-up after staff protocol for high blood pressure in specialty patients after implementing BP connect”.

The Mind Over Matter team, including Brown, UW Ob-Gyn resident Alex Andes, MD, PGY-2, and research specialist Madeline Moureau, had an abstract accepted for a poster presentation: “Does the real-world match the randomized trial? Reach and effectiveness of a community-based incontinence program”.

The 14th Annual Conference on the Science of Dissemination and Implementation in Health (D&I), was co-hosted by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and AcademyHealth on December 14-16, 2021. The Science of D&I Conference aims to ensure that evidence is used to inform decisions that will improve the health of individuals and communities.
