On October 26, UW Ob-Gyn PGY-3 resident MJ Kao, MD was invited to give an oral plenary of her research entitled "Persistent disparities in the enrollment of racial minorities in clinical trials for gynecologic cancers" at the Mid-Atlantic Gynecologic Oncology Society 2018 Annual Meeting in Columbus, OH.

Ryan Spencer, MD, of the UW Ob-Gyn Division of Gynecologic Oncology, is the senior author on the study. Laurel Rice, MD, is also a co-author on the project.

The study shows how Black and Hispanic patients are underrepresented in gynecologic cancer clinical trials when compared to the US population and compared to proportions of people diagnosed with these cancers. Feedback from colleagues in attendance was that the presentation stimulated a wonderful discussion with many thoughtful questions.

Well done, Dr. Kao!
