A new publication by Division of Reproductive and Population Health Director Deborah Ehrenthal, MD, MPH examined Prenatal Care Coordination’s (PNCC) effect on birth outcomes for Medicaid-covered births in Wisconsin.

Estimating the effect of Prenatal Care Coordination in Wisconsin: A sibling fixed effects analysis was published in the journal Health Services Research by Ehrenthal and co-authors David Mallinson, MS, Andrea Larson, PhD, Lawrence Berger, PhD, and Eric Grodsky, PhD:

“We found strong evidence that PNCC service uptake among pregnant Medicaid beneficiaries in Wisconsin decreased their risks of LBW and preterm birth, increased birthweight, and lengthened gestation. Additionally, PNCC assessment/care plan only was not associated with improved birth outcomes, confirming our hypothesis that actual service receipt drives PNCC's potential benefit.”
