Rice and Higgins advocate for continued reproductive health care during COVID

UW Ob-Gyn Department Chair Laurel Rice, MD and UW Collaborative for Reproductive Equity Director Jenny Higgins, PhD, MPH co-authored a letter to the editor on Madison.com making the case for contraceptive care as an essential service during COVID-19.

Access to contraception and abortion is as critical as ever during COVID-19 pandemic” describes efforts in many states to restrict reproductive health care access by deeming it elective or non-essential, and asks Wisconsin leaders to protect access in our state:

“Instead of limiting access, Wisconsin politicians and health care leaders should work to further support access to abortion and contraceptive care to help people stay safe and have autonomy over their bodies, health, and families — and to help limit further strain on the healthcare system. Any moves to limit abortion and contraception are distractions from helping give people what they need right now, like paid sick leave and a health care system that works for everyone.”
