The UW Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is incredibly pleased to announce that Bala Bhagavath, MD, will join us in early 2020 as director of the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility! Dr. Bhagavath will also serve as medical director of Generations Fertility Care.

Dr. Bhagavath joins us from the University of Rochester Medical Center in Rochester, New York, where he holds a variety of important faculty roles. In addition to serving as a professor of reproductive endocrinology and infertility, he is also director of their MIGS fellowship, director of the third-party reproduction program at the Strong Fertility Center, and co-director of the URMC Fibroid Center, which he established in 2013. Prior to his time at the University of Rochester, Dr. Bhagavath was part of the ob-gyn faculty at the Brown University Warren Alpert Medical School, and directed the third-party reproduction program at Women and Infants Hospital in Rhode Island.

Dr. Bhagavath is incredibly active in national organizations: he is president of the Society of Reproductive Surgeons; serves on the editorial boards of Fertility and Sterility and the Journal of Minimally Invasive Gynecology; acts as an ABOG examiner for REI boards; and much more. He has a proven record of investment in faculty development and resident education - at URMC, he serves as associate chair of faculty professionalism and wellness. He has also earned several teaching and education awards, including the CREOG Excellence in Teaching award.

He attended medical school at the University of Madras, followed by ob-gyn residency in the United Kingdom, where he was a member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. He also completed an ob-gyn residency at the Medical College of Georgia, and finished his REI fellowship at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas.

With his depth of experience in clinical care, leadership and teaching, Dr. Bhagavath will be an excellent addition to the UW Department of Ob-Gyn and the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility. We look forward to welcoming Dr. Bhagavath early next year!
