Abbott co-authors new publication in Journal of the Endocrine Society

David Abbott, PhD, professor in the Division of Reproductive Sciences, recently co-authored a new publication in the Journal of the Endocrine Society. Co-authors include Marissa Kraynak, Molly Willging, Daniel Uhlrich, Robert Shapiro, Matthew Flowers, Karen Manning, Sara John, Samantha Williams, Lukas Henjum, Rebecca Marrah, Hannah Yohnk, Carter Berg, Kevin Brunner, Ricki Colman, Andrew Alexander, and Jon Levine.

In “Hypothalamic Estrogen Receptor a Is Essential for Female Marmoset Sexual Behavior Without Protecting From Obesity,” Abbott and co-authors sought to understand the connection between Estrogen Receptor a (ERa) in the hypothalamic ventromedial (VMN) and arcuate (ARC) nuclei of female marmosets and their sexual receptivity, and if this disrupted gonadotropic metabolic homeostasis.

“ERα expression was significantly diminished in the VMN and ARC, but not the preoptic area (POA), of ERαKD females coincident with elimination of timely female sexual responses, more than 80% loss of female receptivity, modestly elevated gonadotropin levels, hyperglycemia, and diminished calorie consumption.”
