Anderson-Carter, Gaston co-author study in Wisconsin Medical Journal


India Anderson-Carter, MD, assistant professor in the Division of Academic Specialists in Ob-Gyn, and Luther Gaston, MD, clinical associate professor in the Division of Academic Specialists in Ob-Gyn, co-authored a new study published in the Wisconsin Medical Journal. Co-authors include Kathleen Antony, MD, MSCI, Aime Teo Broman, Sarah Gnadt, Delores Krickl, Shefaali Sharma, Emily Buttigieg, Benjamin Whiddon.
In “Association of an Enhanced Recovery After Cesarean Surgery Protocol With Postpartum Opioid Utilization: Analysis of a Quality Improvement Project,” the authors looked into the efficacy of a standardized enhanced recovery after cesarean surgery (ERAS) at decreasing the use of opioids after cesarean births:
“An ERAS protocol for cesarean birth including intrathecal morphine was associated with a 93.8% reduction in cumulative opioid dose by MME and should be considered by all hospitals that offer obstetric services.”
