Anderson-Carter receives 2026 AAMC Herbert W. Nickens Faculty Fellowship

Congratulations to India Anderson-Carter, MD, assistant professor in the Division of Academic Specialists in Ob-Gyn! Anderson-Carter was selected by the AAMC to receive the 2026 Herbert W. Nickens Faculty Fellowship Award. Anderson-Carter will receive the award at Learn Serve Lead 2026: The AAMC Annual Meeting in Anaheim, CA in November. 

The Herbert W. Nickens Faculty Fellowship is awarded to assistant-level faculty who demonstrate leadership in efforts to promote equal opportunity in medical education and health care access; address educational, societal and health care needs of underserved populations; and are committed to careers in academic medicine. The AAMC awards one Herbert W. Nickens Faculty Fellowship each year; recipients receive a $25,000 grant to support a project focused on underserved populations. 

Anderson-Carter joined the UW Department of Ob-Gyn faculty in 2024, becoming the department’s first-ever director of social impact and belonging. She spearheaded the department’s regular attendance at the Student National Medical Association’s Annual Medical Education Conference; led the 2026 Pregnancy Trust and Safety Symposium in collaboration with the Wisconsin Department of Health Services; serves as co-chair of the department’s Social Impact and Belonging Committee; and provides invaluable insight into the department’s community engagement efforts.
