Cooney receives ICTR Translational Basic and Clinical Research Pilot Award

Laura Cooney, MD, associate professor in the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, was recently awarded the ICTR Translational Basic and Clinical Research Pilot Award.

The project Functional and Structural Impacts of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) on Brain Health, which is in collaboration with Co-PI Bill Schrage, PhD, of the UW-Madison Department of Kinesiology, will study how PCOS, a hormonal disorder that can contribute to increased rates of type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and cognitive decline in women, may negatively affect brain health. The results of this interdisciplinary pilot study will help inform strategies to prevent long-term cognitive decline and improve care.
