On July 2, 2026, Katie Sampene, MD, professor in the Division of Academic Specialists in Ob-Gyn and Sumer Wallace, MD, MS, associate professor in the Division of Gynecologic Oncology, presented the Grand Rounds lecture “Peer and Systems: a Quality Review Primer.” Sampene and Wallace are Ob and Gyn Directors of Quality and Safety, respectively, and the co-chairs of the UW Department of Ob-Gyn Quality Improvement Review Committee. In the lecture, Sampene and Wallace defined peer and systems review and their purposes; summarized review processes at UnityPoint Health–Meriter, UW Health and within the Department of Ob-Gyn; differentiated peer review from systems-based quality improvement; and identified opportunities for faculty and staff to participate in quality initiatives.
