Grand Rounds: Zapata presents “Combating Racial Inequities in Infant Mortality: A Personal and Professional Journey”

Jasmine Zapata, MD, MPH, of the UW SMPH Department of Pediatrics, presented the Grand Rounds lecture “Combating Racial Inequities in Infant Mortality: A Personal and Professional Journey” to the UW Department of Ob-Gyn on February 4, 2021.

In the lecture, Zapata identified leading causes of Black infant mortality in Wisconsin, examined major health problems affecting infants born prematurely, interpreted root causes of Wisconsin’s current racial inequities in infant mortality from a lifecourse perspective, and shared initiatives to improve Black maternal and child health outcomes in Wisconsin. During her presentation, Zapata recommended reading the Saving Our Babies report from the Foundation for Black Women’s Wellness.
