Green discusses Sarto’s legacy and impact in WORT special broadcast

In early January, WORT FM aired An Obit Special: People we Lost In 2024. The program included a tribute to Gloria Sarto, MD, PhD, emerita professor in the UW Department of Ob-Gyn. Sarto passed away in June 2024. The program highlighted Sarto’s extensive contributions to health and health equity throughout her career. Learn more about her impact here.
Tiffany Green, PhD, associate professor in the Division of Reproductive and Population Health and current Gloria Sarto, MD, PhD, Chair in Women’s Health and Health Equity Research, joined the broadcast to talk about Sarto’s impact on her own career.
“Seeing the work that she would do in the community, and how trusted she was, frankly, by the Black women in this community, that really gave me an example of how CBPR [community-based participatory research] should be done,” says Green.
“And it's finally ended up that I started doing research in community settings...and then I ended up coming back here to UW, and now a lot of my research is mixed methods...there often are really strong community engagement elements to that work, and I don't know that I would be doing this if not for Dr. Sarto.”
