Green’s REAL Lab shares policy brief on Birth Cost Recovery

Tiffany Green, PhD, associate professor in the Division of Reproductive and Population Health, recently co-authored a new policy brief on Birth Cost Recovery. Co-authors include Klaira Lerma, MPH, Laura Swan, PhD, LCSW, Eva Strelitz-Block, BA, and Emma Romell, MS. The policy brief was published through Green’s Reproductive Equity Action Lab (REAL).
In “The Future of Birth Cost Recovery in Wisconsin,” Green and REAL co-authors discussed the implications of Wisconsin’s Birth Cost Recovery program and the issue it poses for families, and why Governor Tony Evers’ plan to eliminate it will be widely beneficial.
“Ending Birth Cost Recovery across the state may reduce harm on Wisconsin families and result in more child support money going to children and their custodial parent. The largest administrative barrier to ending Birth Cost Recovery in Wisconsin, loss of funding for county-level child support agencies, can be overcome by implementing the budget proposal, ensuring that county child support agencies remain fiscally solvent to carry out their mission.”
