Higgins, Williamson discuss policy challenges to contraception with Cap Times

Jenny Higgins, PhD, MPH, director of the UW Collaborative for REproductive Equity (CORE), and Amy Williamson, MPP, associate director of CORE, joined the Cap Times to talk about the implications of potential policy challenges on reproductive health.

In “Fearing birth control bans, Wisconsin women begin to plan ahead,” Williamson and Higgins discussed the role local health departments and family planning options will play in coming years. As more people become interested in learning more about these services and what potential restrictions might mean for their reproductive health, there is fear that services like Planned Parenthood will not receive enough federal funding or be legally allowed to offer their help.

“The Title X program is absolutely critical as a family planning safety net in the state, and the prior Trump administration rules left it reeling for years, and it's still not gotten back up to the service levels it had prior to Trump,” Williamson said.

Higgins added, “the landscape of contraceptive care in the state is likely to change drastically.”
