Hoppe promoted to Professor (CHS)

Please join us in congratulating Kara Hoppe, DO, PhD, of the Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine! The UW School of Medicine and Public Health Clinician Teacher Track Faculty Appointments and Promotions Committee endorsed the Department of Ob-Gyn’s recommendation that Hoppe be promoted to the rank of Professor (CHS), effective June 29, 2025. 

Hoppe earned her DO in 2008 from Midwestern University, followed by ob-gyn residency  and Maternal-Fetal Medicine fellowship at the University of Washington in Seattle. In 2024, she received a PhD in Clinical Investigation from the University of Wisconsin Institute for Clinical and Translational Research. 

She began working in the UW Department of Ob-Gyn in 2015 as a Clinical Assistant Professor. Hoppe is currently the Medical Director of Perinatal Services at UnityPoint Health Meriter, an Associate Professor (CHS) in the Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine, as well as the Vice Chair of Clinical Research in the Division of Obstetrics and Gynecology. 

Hoppe is a prolific research leader in our department, particularly focusing on hypertension, cardiovascular health, and pregnancy.

She received the UW Health Rising Star Clinical Practice Award in 2020, the Norman F. Gant Award for Best Research in Maternal Medicine at the 43rd Annual Pregnancy Meeting for the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine in 2023, the David Sackett Annual Trial of the Year Award, given out by the Society for Clinical Trials in 2023, as well as the Poster Session Award from the Society of Maternal-Fetal Medicine in 2024.
