Jacques and medical students publish in Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare

Laura Jacques, MD, associate professor in the Division of Academic Specialists in Obstetrics and Gynecology and Director of Medical Student Education in the UW Department of Ob-Gyn, co-authored a new article with UW School of Medicine and Public Health students published in Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare. Co-authors include Tessa Meurer and Elise S. Cowley.

In “Medical student perceptions of clinical abortion training opportunities across the United States,” Jacques and co-authors explored abortion training options available to medical students. They found that as restrictions increased regionally, the type of training available also changed.

“Of 100 survey respondents, 50 % reported institutional access to abortion training (17.5 % in restrictive states; 71.2 % in permissive states; χ2 = 25.9, p < 0.00001) and 46 % indicated that they or a peer had attended a visiting student elective (VSE) covering abortion care (47.5 % in restricted states; 51.9 % in permissive states).”
