Jacques talks about common gynecologic questions with Women’s Health Magazine

Laura Jacques, MD, associate professor in the Division of Academic Specialists in Ob-Gyn, joined Women’s Health Magazine to talk about common gynecologic questions.

In “7 Symptoms Gynecologists Don’t Want You To Stress About”, Jacques and fellow physicians from across the United States answered questions about symptoms such as vaginal discharge, fluctuations in the menstrual cycle, and the occasional lump or bump. Jacques discussed the common symptoms of vaginal itching and irritation:

“However tempting it may be to scratch, to prevent further irritation or inflammation, you should avoid doing so, says Dr. Jacques. You’ll also want to steer clear of irritating soaps, douches, or products that go in or near the vagina, ‘because they can disrupt [the vulva’s] delicate ecosystem, particularly the lactobacilli that are needed to maintain a healthy environment,’ she says. Wearing breathable, cotton underwear, and keeping the area around the vulva dry can also help prevent irritation.”
