Kelly co-authors article in Wisconsin Medical Journal
Bridget Kelly, MD, assistant professor in the Division of Academic Specialists in Ob-Gyn, recently authored a new article published in the Wisconsin Medical Journal. Co-authors include Emily Buttigieg, MD; Fei Cai, MD; R. Nicholas Burns, MD; and B. Star Hampton, MD.
In “Teaching Ambulatory Obstetrics and Gynecology with a Novel Case-Based Podcast Curriculum,” the research team implemented a standardized ambulatory clinic curriculum in obstetrics and gynecology residency training and evaluated its feasibility and acceptability. The curriculum consisted of weekly OB-GYN-focused podcasts on ambulatory topics, paired with 15-minute case-based discussions conducted before clinic, and was implemented for 28 OB-GYN residents at a single institution. The authors found that:
“After curriculum implementation, residents reported increased frequency of structured ambulatory teaching and greater satisfaction with teaching, while faculty reported improved resident knowledge. Both residents and faculty spent less than 30 minutes per week preparing for didactic sessions … A podcast-based, case-discussion ambulatory curriculum is a feasible and well-accepted approach to enhancing resident education in the ambulatory setting. This adaptable model may be applicable to other residency programs and specialties seeking to strengthen ambulatory training.”
