Rice selected for 2025 WMAA Clinical Sciences Emeriti Faculty Award

Former Department of Ob-Gyn Chair and emerit professor Laurel Rice, MD, was selected to receive a 2025 Wisconsin Medical Alumni Association (WMAA) Clinical Sciences Emeriti Faculty Award! Rice will be honored at an award presentation ceremony on May 2, 2025.

The WMAA Emeriti Faculty Award recognizes outstanding service to the UW School of Medicine and Public Health. It is awarded to emeriti faculty in the Basic and Clinical Sciences who have exhibited exceptional commitment to the school over a period of years.

Rice was nominated for her 15 years of service as department chair, during which time she built a remarkable team of providers and support staff focused on playing a pivotal role in advancing women’s health through clinical excellence, education, discovery, and advocacy. She led the department to its first top 10 placement in the annual U.S. News and World Report’s Best Hospitals ranking list. Her leadership extended well beyond the department, including multiple roles with the UW-Madison Athletic Board, on the UW Hospitals and Clinics Board of Directors, Senior Leadership Council, and East Campus Executive Steering Committee, and on the UW Medical Foundation Board of Directors and Funds Oversight Committee among others.

Congratulations on this well-deserved honor, Dr. Rice!
