Rose publishes invited review in Green Journal

Stephen Rose, MD, professor in the Division of Gynecologic Oncology, authored a new invited review published in Obstetrics and Gynecology.

In “When Less is More, Rose discusses advancements in screening and ultrasounds that can reduce the need for unnecessary follow-up appointments for ovarian cysts. Rose admits diagnosing ovarian cancer is difficult, but is optimistic that research conducted by the University of Kentucky Ovarian Cancer Screening Trials can limit the amount of unnecessary appointments for cysts up to a certain size, and create more appointments for patients that actually need extra visits.

“It is also important to note that not all adnexal cysts occur in a vacuum. Although ultrasound characteristics are an important piece of the diagnostic puzzle, patient history and symptoms are vitally important to understand when tumor markers may be necessary or when referral to a gynecologic oncologist may be reasonable.”
