Schmidt to serve as co-investigator on R01 grant to study infertility causes

Congratulations to Jenna Schmidt, PhD, assistant professor in the Division of Reproductive Sciences! Schmidt will be a sub-principal investigator on a R01 grant from the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development.

Kenichiro Taniguchi, PhD, associate professor in the Medical College of Wisconsin Department of Cell Biology, Neurobiology, and Anatomy is principal investigator on the project “Mechanically sensitive regulators of human amnion and primordial germ cell formation from a common progenitor” (1R01HD120294-01).

The grant provides $639,854 to study early causes of infertility. Schmidt and co-investigators will focus on identifying the molecular drivers of amnion and primordial germ cell specification using a stem cell-based model. They will validate their findings in nonhuman primate in vivo embryo implantation sites.

Incredible work, Dr. Schmidt!
