Sobecki appointed inaugural Ginny Wolfe Faculty Fellow of Ovarian Cancer Research
Janelle Sobecki, MD, assistant professor in the Division of Gynecologic Oncology, is the first-ever Department of Ob-Gyn Ginny Wolfe Faculty Fellow of Ovarian Cancer Research! Sobecki’s faculty fellowship began on July 1, 2024.
This new faculty fellowship is intended to advance ovarian cancer research at the University of Wisconsin. Since joining the Department of Ob-Gyn faculty in 2021, Sobecki has focused her research on important aspects of cancer care and survivorship. She is the Disease-Oriented Team leader of gynecologic oncology clinical trials for Carbone Cancer Center, leading the effort to advance treatment options and cures for female pelvic cancers. She is a recent recipient of the GOG Foundation New Investigator Award. The GOG Foundation is the premier international collaborative network for transformative clinical research in gynecologic malignancies.
Sobecki’s research interests include improving the quality of life for gynecologic cancer survivors, particularly in the areas of bone and sexual health. She is the medical director of the Women's Integrative Sexual Health (WISH) program at UW Health. She is in her final year as a scholar in the NIH-funded Building Interdisciplinary Research Careers in Women’s Health (BIRCWH) Program at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Her currently funded research is prospectively investigating the risk of osteosarcopenia in women undergoing treatment for gynecologic cancers; this faculty fellowship will help support her work in this crucial area.
Please help us congratulate Dr. Sobecki on this well-deserved honor!
