Sobecki, Zhang talk about mentorship in cancer care with OncLive

Janelle Sobecki, MD, assistant professor in the Division of Gynecologic Oncology, and Catherine Zhang, MD, MPH, assistant professor in the Division of Gynecologic Oncology, spoke with OncLive about the importance of women in leadership positions and mentorship within the field of oncology.

In “UW Health Experts Underscore Value of Continuous Mentorship to Champion Women in Oncology,” both Sobecki and Zhang underscored the importance of seeing women in positions of power within the medical field, even for interested high school students.

“We have a lot of room to grow in having more female leaders. Studies have shown that programs with 1 or more women in leadership positions are associated with a higher average percentage of women on faculty,” Zhang said.
