Spencer co-authors article about residency program trends in Green Journal
Ryan Spencer, MD, MS, professor in the Division of Gynecologic Oncology, recently co-authored an article published in Obstetrics & Gynecology. Co-authors include Anchal Dhawan, BS; Natalia Gontarczyk Uczkowski, MPH; Amy Godecker, PhD, MS; and Emily Morris Hawes, PharmD.
In “Trends in Comparative Growth in Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Programs Over the Past 20 Years (2005–2024)”, the authors examined the growth of obstetrics and gynecology residency programs and positions compared with other core medical specialties over the past 20 years. They found that:
“Obstetrics and gynecology residency growth has lagged behind that of other specialties both before and since the single accreditation system transition in 2015, highlighting a persistent gap in capacity to meet increasing demand. These findings highlight the need for focused efforts to match the growth of obstetrics and gynecology residency positions and programs with the expanding health care demands.”
