Spencer promoted to Professor (CHS)

Please join us in congratulating Ryan Spencer, MD, MS, of the Division of Gynecologic Oncology! The UW School of Medicine and Public Health Clinician Teacher Track Faculty Appointments and Promotions Committee endorsed the Department of Ob-Gyn’s recommendation that Spencer be promoted to the rank of Professor (CHS), starting June 29, 2025.
Spencer received his MD in 2007 with a Distinction in Humanistic Studies from the Renaissance School of Medicine at Stony Brook University, followed by ob-gyn residency at the Harvard Integrated Residency Program at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. Spencer completed fellowship in Gynecology Oncology at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics in 2015 and earned an MS in clinical investigation from the University of Wisconsin Institute for Clinical Translation Research in 2018.
Spencer joined the Division of Gynecologic Oncology faculty in 2015. In addition to a busy clinical practice, he is an educational leader in the Department of Ob-Gyn, UW Health, and the state. He served as residency program director from 2019-2023 and is currently program director of the gynecologic oncology fellowship. In 2024, he was named the UW Health UW Health Associate Designated Institutional Official (ADIO) of Graduate Medical Education. In addition, he is a statewide and national leader in rural graduate medical education.
Since Spencer’s time at UW, he’s earned the Karl A. Rudat Award for Excellence in surgical teaching at the senior resident level, the Rural Health Community Hero Award from the Wisconsin Office of Rural Health, ACOG Mentor of the Year Award from the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, among many other impressive awards.
