Spencer supports gynecologic cancer research with SGO in Washington

In February, the Society of Gynecologic Oncology (SGO) organized a women’s health research roundtable and congressional outreach event in Washington, D.C. in support of gynecologic cancer research funding. Ryan Spencer, MD, MS, associate professor in the Division of Gynecologic Oncology, attended the event as part of his role as chair of the SGO Health, Policy, & Socioeconomic Committee: Legislative Affairs Subcommittee.

During the event, Spencer and other SGO leaders, along with patient advocates, met with congressional offices to talk about continued funding for gynecologic cancer research. They also hosted a congressional briefing to highlight treatment innovations, emphasize the need for research support, and advocate for a mentorship program at the National Cancer Institute.

The event also included a women’s health research roundtable co-hosted American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, Women’s First Research Coalition, and the American Gynecology and Obstetrics Society. Read more about the event in the February 2025 Presidential Matters post from current SGO President Amanda Nickels Fader, MD.

Thanks to Dr. Spencer for supporting cancer research funding at the national level!
