Wagar shares what's next after Gynecologic Oncology fellowship

After three years of intense fellowship training in the UW Ob-Gyn Division of Gynecologic Oncology, Matthew Wagar, MD,  is preparing to graduate. Wagar shares what’s next after fellowship, the important lessons learned during training, and messages of gratitude for people who shaped his time in fellowship.

Where will you be going and what will you be doing after UW Ob-Gyn?

I will be joining the faculty at the University of Virginia.

What are the most important things you learned during your fellowship?

I've learned how important it is to work as a team, especially when you're taking care of others. And when given the opportunity you should always try to eat your lunch.

How do you feel UW Ob-Gyn prepared you for success after fellowship?

My training at UW has given me a depth of experience in gyn cancer, and being a member of a larger community of practitioners dedicated to enhancing care for women in Wisconsin has made me really grateful for the culture and collaboration available in our department. I'm excited to get to work.

What will you miss most about UW Ob-Gyn and/or Madison?

I will miss all my friends and mentors; everyone who makes this place special. I'll miss the lakes and the food and the summer time here, but the people most of all.

Any special shout-outs or thanks to faculty, staff, other trainees who really shaped your time here?

The entire Division of Gynecologic Oncology, my co-fellows past and present, and my co-residents, some who have stayed and some who have gone elsewhere, who have supported me through my fellowship. Special shout out to Dr. Huffman's dog Riley too obviously, she is my emotional support dog (that is not really my dog).
