Welcome Katie O’Brien, MD, to Division of Academic Specialists in Ob-Gyn

Dr. Kathleen (Katie) O’Brien will join the Division of Academic Specialists in Ob-Gyn as an assistant professor on September 1, 2024. O’Brien is currently completing a fellowship in Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology (PAG); she will be a valuable addition to our clinical offerings.

O’Brien completed medical school at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, followed by obstetrics and gynecology residency at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. She will complete PAG fellowship at the University of Michigan later this year.

O’Brien is a member of the North American Society for Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology (NASPAG) and the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH). In 2023, she received the Sally E. Perlman Best Poster Award at the NASPAG Annual Clinical and Research Meeting for the project "Oophorectomy at the Time of Gender-Affirming Hysterectomy in Young Adults."

O’Brien will divide her clinical practice between PAG and adult ob-gyn, with some of her time spent seeing PAG patients at the Deming Way Teen and Adolescent Medicine Clinic, and some seeing adult patients at one of the UW Health ob-gyn clinics. In the future, she may also participate in UW Health multidisciplinary clinics like the Gender and Sex Development Clinic, and PCOS clinic. She will operate at both American Family Children’s Hospital (for pediatric and adolescent patients) and UnityPoint Health-Meriter Hospital (for adult patients).

Thanks to everyone who supported recruitment of Dr. O’Brien to Wisconsin! Her subspecialty expertise will add an important dimension to our patient care. Please join us in welcoming Dr. O’Brien to the department!
