Wendland, Higgins to mentor ICTR community-engaged research project

Claire Wendland, MD, PhD, professor in the Division of Reproductive and Population Health and the UW-Madison Department of Anthropology, and Jenny Higgins, PhD, MPH, director of the Division of Reproductive and Population Health, will mentor Brittanni Wright, PhD, MDiv, MPH, to develop an UW Institute for Clinical and Translational Research (ICTR) community-engaged research project

Wright’s project “Understanding the Sexual and Reproductive Health of Adults Living with Sickle Cell Disease”, funded by the ICTR Collaborative Health Equity Research (CHER) Track 1, will lay the foundation for a comprehensive understanding of how sickle cell disease affects a person’s sexual well-being, a critical aspect of their overall health. The goal is to create the first sexuality-specific curriculum that addresses sexual well-being among adult people living with sickle cell disease. Wright will conduct the project in collaboration with a community partner, the Sickle Cell Reproductive Health Education Directive.

The ICTR Community Engaged Research Pilot Awards Program, made possible by Wisconsin Partnership Program support to ICTR, helps researchers generate collaborations and pilot data that can inform larger projects.
