Wendland receives 2025 SMPH GWIMS/BIRCWH Women’s Health Research Mentorship Award

Congratulations to Claire Wendland, MD, PhD, professor in the Division of Reproductive and Population Health and the University of Wisconsin–Madison Department of Anthropology, who was selected to receive the 2025 UW School of Medicine and Public Health Group on Women in Medicine and Science (GWIMS)/Building Interdisciplinary Research Careers in Women’s Health (BIRWCH) Women’s Health Research Mentorship Award! Wendland was honored during the GWIMS Symposium on December 4, 2025.

The GWIMS/BIRCWH Women’s Health Research Mentorship Award recognizes the impactful mentorship of scientists fostering successful careers in women’s health and sex differences research. It is co-sponsored by the UW–Madison BIRWCH Program.

Wendland was nominated for this award in honor of a long career as a dedicated teacher and mentor. She dedicates untold hours to mentoring learners at many levels, including undergraduates who take her courses to PhD candidates in the Department of Anthropology, to postdoctoral scholars in the Health Disparities Research Scholars program. She supports countless learners while also keeping her own research thriving.

Congratulations on this incredibly well-deserved honor, Dr. Wendland!
