Zhang discusses gynecologic cancer awareness with WBAY

Catherine Zhang, MD, MPH, assistant professor in the Division of Gynecologic Oncology, spoke with Wisconsin media about gynecologic cancer risk factors, screening gaps, and early warning signs during Gynecologic Cancer Awareness Month. 

In “Doctors urge awareness of gynecologic cancer risk factors as awareness month begins,” aired on WBAY, Zhang discussed the five types of gynecologic cancer (ovarian, cervical, vulvar, vaginal, and uterine) as well as the importance of knowing your personal and family risk factors. She also highlighted the lack of effective routine screening for ovarian cancer and encouraged people to pay attention to potential warning signs, including post-menopausal bleeding. 

“I really just want to highlight that I think gynecologic cancer oftentimes people don’t know a lot about it, but having increased awareness is so important.”
