Zhang to become associate program director of ob-gyn residency
The UW Department of Ob-Gyn residency is happy to share that Ran Catherine Zhang, MD, MPH, assistant professor in the Division of Gynecologic Oncology, will join the residency leadership team as an associate program director, effective July 1, 2026. Dr. Zhang will take over this role from Caroline Cox, MD, who will step down from the APD position to become director of the Division of Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery. Cox will remain involved in the residency through her role as co-director of the Resident Scholars Program.
Zhang earned her medical degree and Master of Public Health from the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine, followed by obstetrics and gynecology residency at the University of Minnesota. She completed gynecologic oncology fellowship in the UW Department of Ob-Gyn and joined the Division of Gynecologic Oncology faculty in 2023.
Since joining the Department of Ob-Gyn faculty, Zhang has demonstrated a commitment to education and service. She has served as a member of the Department of Ob-Gyn Education Committee and Social Impact and Belonging Committee since 2023. Zhang provides input on fellow training as part of the Gynecologic Oncology Fellowship Clinical Competency Committee; since 2025, she has been part of clinical and surgical curriculum development for the Department of Ob-Gyn residency program.
In addition to her service roles, Zhang is also a respected educator and mentor. Her teaching experience includes both lectures and case-based learning for UW SMPH Phase I and Phase II students; surgical simulations and workshops for ob-gyn residents and gynecologic oncology fellows; and plenary presentations at national oncology conferences.
We are so excited to have Zhang join the residency leadership team! Please help us congratulate Dr. Zhang on this exciting new role and thank Dr. Cox for her service on behalf of the UW Department of Ob-Gyn residents.
