Welcome incoming Integrated Specialty Care for Women Medical Director Babak Vakili, MD!

Babak Vakili, MD, will join the UW Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and UW Health as the first Medical Director of the Integrated Specialty Care for Women (ISCW) program! Dr. Vakili’s position will be 50% ISCW Medical Director and 50% faculty in the Division of Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery. Dr. Vakili joins us on February 1, 2025.

Vakili received his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University, followed by obstetrics and gynecology residency at ChristianaCare in Newark, Delaware. He completed urogynecology fellowship at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center.

He joins us from ChristianaCare in Delaware, where he has been the medical director of the Center for Urogynecology and Pelvic Surgery since 2007 and vice chair of gynecologic surgery since 2011. In those roles, he started the ChristianaCare Urogynecology Division, developed specialty clinics in pelvic pain and sexual health, mentored gynecologic surgeons, and led all initiatives regarding gynecologic surgery. He is a respected educator, receiving multiple APGO Excellence in Teaching Awards throughout his career. Dr. Vakili’s robust research career has generated dozens of peer-reviewed publications and presentations at national conferences.

Vakili will be the first-ever ISCW Medical Director, stepping into a role created to support the new program at Eastpark Medical Center. As ISCW Medical Director, Vakili will be the physician leader of the specialized services that fall within the program, providing oversight to medical and surgical services. His leadership will be essential to maintaining high-quality clinical operations, seamlessly integrating educational and research efforts, and developing effective plans for future growth as we launch this distinctive program. He will report to the UW Health Chief Clinical Officer in this role.
