Brian Tuohy received his PhD from the Department of Sociology at the University of Chicago in 2018 and an MSt from the University of Oxford in The Study of Religion in 2010 as a Clarendon Scholar. Before joining the HDRS program at Wisconsin, Brian was also a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Fielding School of Public Health at UCLA (2018-2020). Dr. Tuohy’s research, which has appeared in Social Forces and City & Community, focuses on the increasing significance of legal status in immigrant lives and with critical issues that arise at the intersection of healthcare and immigration reform. As a HDRS Fellow Brian will continue this work by focusing specifically on the health impact of proposed changes to “public charge” designations, including the utilization of Medicaid benefits, for immigrant communities and mixed-status families.
