Landry to retire in spring 2024

Mary Landry, MD, clinical professor in the Department of Ob-Gyn, has indicated her intention to retire this spring, with her final working day around the end of March. Please join us in thanking Dr. Landry for service to the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and wishing her all the best as she embarks on retirement!

Landry earned her medical degree from the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health and completed ob-gyn residency at UW Hospital. She joined Associated Physicians in Madison after residency, where she practiced obstetrics and gynecology for 10 years. Throughout her employment at Associated Physicians, Landry was also a UW SMPH volunteer clinical faculty member, teaching trainees as a private practitioner.

In 2005, she joined the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology as a clinical assistant professor, providing outpatient gynecology care at the University Health Services Women’s Clinic. She became the manager of the UHS Women’s Clinic in 2010, leading it until 2021. During her time at UHS, Landry launched a telehealth birth control program to support busy students’ contraceptive needs and improve clinical efficiency. She also successfully advocated for training opportunities for medical students at UHS and improved the ob-gyn resident educational experience in the clinic.

Landry’s career has been exemplified by outreach and access: in 2013, she co-founded Share the Health, a nonprofit clinic providing free gynecology care to uninsured people in Dane and surrounding counties. She became the Medical Director of the Wisconsin Department of Health Services Title X Reproductive Health and Family Planning program in 2021, supporting clinics and health care professionals around the state in the provision of family planning and reproductive health services.

It is hard to overstate Dr. Landry’s impact on our learners, faculty, staff, and community during her long career in Madison. Please join us in wishing Dr. Landry a joyful, meaningful retirement!
