Residents participate in their own continuity clinic (RCC) throughout residency. PGY-1 residents attend RCC once weekly during their Ambulatory Clinic block. PGY 2-4 residents have a half-day of RCC every week during all rotations except for night float and the PGY-4 OB chief block.

As part of the continuity clinic, residents see patients presenting with obstetric and gynecologic needs. Patient volume and complexity per clinic session is tailored to PGY level, and advances with each year of residency.

During the PGY-4 year, each resident will spend two blocks serving as the dedicated RCC Clinic Chief, where they assume responsibility for managing the clinic's EHR in-basket (phone calls, patient messages, and results), coordinating care for patients, and helping to supervise junior residents in clinic. They also attend ultrasound clinic, menopause clinic, office hysteroscopy clinic, and colposcopy clinic during this ambulatory rotation.

The mission of the University of Wisconsin Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health is to improve the health and quality of life for people across the reproductive life span. Our residents learn to provide all aspects of this clinical care, including abortion, family planning/contraception, care for complex pregnancies and miscarriage management.

Following the Dobbs decision, which temporarily ended the provision of most abortion services across the state of Wisconsin, we partnered with an out-of-state program to ensure that our residents continued to receive exceptional, hands-on abortion care training. Thanks to our ability to once again provide abortion care and training here in Wisconsin, we have — with deep gratitude to our colleagues in Illinois — concluded that partnership. With acknowledgment that the state and national climates are ever evolving, we remain committed to upholding transparency about how the legal landscape has affected (and will continue to affect) our residents' education, and we welcome your questions.

Our residents are fortunate to participate in a wide variety of clinics and surgical experiences that provide them with additional exposure to subspeciality care in OB-GYN, beyond the standard rotations. These clinics provide focused education in pediatrics and adolescent gynecology (PAG), vulvar disorders and disease, vulvar/vaginal and cervical dysplasia, gender affirming care, early pregnancy assessment, and minimally invasive gynecology.
