The mission of this Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery Fellowship Program is to promote the quality of women’s health care by producing outstanding clinician-scientists to be educators and leaders in advancing the knowledge and treatment of female pelvic complications and diseases.

As the only multidisciplinary program in the state, and one of few in the country, there is an existing, dynamic collaboration between Urogynecology, Female Urology, Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy, and Nutrition Therapy, which bolsters the quality of urogynecology training.

Fellows will receive advanced surgical training in vaginal, abdominal, laparoscopic and robotic procedures, as well as highly specialized clinical experience in evaluating, diagnosing, managing, and treating conditions affecting the female pelvic floor, including urinary incontinence, lower urinary tract disorders, fistula repair, overactive bladder, pelvic organ prolapse and colorectal dysfunction.

In addition, fellows will further their analytical and scientific research skills by conducting a research project with relevant application to the advancement of urogynecology care and treatment, resulting in their final thesis for board certification and subsequent submission of a manuscript for publication.

Eligible candidates must have successfully completed residency at an accredited program in either Obstetrics and Gynecology or Urology.  Fellowship training for obstetrician-gynecologists consists of three years, while the training period for urologists may be two OR three years.

Fellows who successfully complete this program will be board eligible. Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery subspecialty qualifying and certifying exams for obstetrics and gynecology physicians will be conducted by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG).  For urology physicians, these exams will be conducted by the American Board of Urology (ABU).

It is expected that all graduate fellows apply for their respective Urogynecology board-certifying exams.
