Yalmarie Numan-Vazquez (She/Her/Hers)
Biomedical Engineering, 1st Year PhD Student
Hometown: Carolina, P.R.
Education: B.S., Cellular and Molecular Biology, University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras
Research interests: Yalmarie Numan-Vazquez is working on two projects related to the application of microfluidic devices for studying women's reproductive health. The first project is the development and characterization of a microfluidic device capable of constructing blind tubular structures embedded in hydrogel for biological applications such as mimicking fallopian tubes to study pathways leading to high-grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSC). The second project involves characterizing a microfluidic model of preeclampsia using ex-vivo endothelial cells from umbilical cords of normotensive pregnant patients and patients with preeclampsia for effective disease modeling.
Outside of lab interests: Outside of lab I like to go into nature, watch movies, read books, and write music.
